La
collaboration entre les acteurs intervenant le long
de la chaîne d’approvisionnements est
donc nécessaire pour minimiser les impacts
environnementaux. Il en est d’ailleurs de
même pour les délais, les coûts,
etc.
En
se coordonnant, les entreprises doivent pouvoir
appliquer le principe suivant : l’optimum
global n’est pas la somme des optimums locaux,
les objectifs individuels pouvant parfois être
divergents. Un travail collaboratif (par exemple
des échanges de flux, le partage des moyens
de transport ou de production) est très efficace
et rentable économiquement. Nombreuses entreprises
sont cependant à réticentes à
adopter une telle démarche craignant une
perte de contrôle de leur activité
et de leur différentiation commerciale en
travaillant avec leurs fournisseurs, clients et
concurrents.
En
2008, The Future Laboratory (Organisation de conseil
intervenant dans les domaines de prévision
des tendances, de la stratégie de marque
et de la connaissance des consommateurs) a produit
un système de classement des différents
niveaux de prise en compte du développement
durable par les entreprises. Ce classement est le
« Three Tiers of Sustainability” (les
3 niveaux du développement durable) :
- Le 1er niveau regroupe des mesures
simples telles que le recyclage du papier, la réduction
de l’empreinte carbone grâce à
l’utilisation de moyens de transports écologiques,
l’utilisation de la téléconférence
plutôt que les déplacements, etc.
- Le 2ème niveau marque
la prise de conscience des organisations de la nécessité
d'intégrer le développement durable
dans les opérations de leur chaîne
d'approvisionnement (depuis la conception du produit
jusqu’à sa distribution)
- Le 3ème niveau a recours
à l'audit et au benchmarking pour fournir
un cadre permettant de gérer le développement
durable des opérations de la chaîne
d'approvisionnement. Atteindre ce niveau implique
que les entreprises reconnaissent la génération
d’économies grâce à la
mise en place d’opérations vertes.
